Impact of offsetting projects and programmes

The Compensation Office publishes statistics on registered offsetting projects and programmes. The estimates of the expected emission reductions are taken from the application documents of the registered projects and programmes. A file with the data and evaluations is available for download.

The table shows the total emissions reductions expected from applicants in project and programme descriptions, as well as the certificates issued, expressed in tonnes of CO₂ equivalents per year. The following are not included in this presentation: certificates from over-achievements by non-ETS companies; certificates from the programme to reduce geogenic emissions in the cement industry 2008–2012; certificates from the conversion of emission allowances from the first trading period; emission reductions from projects and programmes carried out by the applicants themselves. — © FOEN

The total emissions for all certificates issued are shown in tCO2e. It is not the year of issue that is decisive, but the year in which the emission reduction was achieved. The bar for 2013 falls outside the visible range and is shown in full in the graph below. — © FOEN

The number of projects and programmes is shown by project type. This makes it possible to see how many projects and programmes have been registered for each technology. This presentation does not allow for any interpretation of the extent of emission reductions achieved by different technologies. — © FOEN
